White Gold Leaf Process

When making a gold leaf print, I print my photographs on vellum paper using an inkjet printer.  Vellum is a translucent paper with ethereal qualities that gives a unique luminosity to images when they are backed with gold leaf. A specialized sizing is applied to the back of the print and real gold leaf is applied to the area.  The print receives several coatings of clear UV protective acrylic to protect both the print and the gold leaf, lending an extra glow to the metals.

My final images have both a soft warm glow as well as a dimensional quality provided by the white gold.  Each print is unique.  The hand application of the gold leaf shows subtle variations and each print is edged in gold leaf giving a rough border.  These edges may be displayed in the final framing of the image or covered by a mat board.
